Truck falls through ice, girls help father

Two ten-year-old girls are being credited for their courage as they recover in Delta County after the truck their father was driving went through the ice.

According to Gladstone Public Safety, they were called out to the Bayview area Tuesday night around 6:40.

A 43-year-old Gladstone man and his twin daughters were driving their truck on the ice, checking out the shanties. That's when the vehicle crashed through the ice.

All three escaped out the back window as the truck submerged; the trio then started to walk to shore. When the father was unable to go any further, one girl stayed with him while the other ran for help.

The three were rescued and taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital. They were treated and released for hypothermia.

Authorities say the truck is still in the water, and people are being asked to stay out of the area as the ice is very unstable.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
