Public safety officers discovered a 15-year-old boy staying in a room lined with tarps at an Escanaba residence last Friday.
Escanaba Public Safety conducted a well-being check on the 15 year old, when they discovered that he was staying in an 8' x 10' room lined with tarps in the upstairs of a home on North 20th Street. According to police, the teen had not left the residence for years.
According to police, 46-year-old Susan Bardo and 47-year-old Carl Pellinen, Bardo's boyfriend, are facing charges of first degree child abuse, criminal sexual conduct, and torture.
The 15-year-old boy was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital for medical evaluation.
Bardo and Pellinen were arraigned in court on Monday morning, and are both being held at the Delta County Jail on $50,000 bond.
