Manistique Public Safety Officers arrested two suspects on Wednesday in relation to a residential fire which occurred on June 12.
The fire occurred at 115 North Fourth Street in the City of Manistique, resulting in the total destruction of the home. Officials say that the investigation by Public Safety found the fire to be suspicious in nature.
Officers arrested 36-year-old Karen Anne MacDonald and 18-year-old Christopher Krummich, both resident of the Manistique area. MacDonald was the owner of the burned home.
The Manistique Public Safety Department reports that both suspects were charged with two criminal counts: arson of an insured dwelling and conspiracy to commit arson of an insured dwelling. Both charges carry of a penalty of life or any term of years and/or $20,000 or 3 times the value of the destroyed property, whichever is greater.
The suspects were formally charged by Schoolcraft County Prosecutor Tim Noble. Judge Mark Luoma set their bond at $250,000 cash or surety for both suspects.
They are both scheduled to appear in 93rd District Court July 16 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
