      Two cars involved in Marquette Township crash

      UPDATED: 6:25 a.m. Wednesday

      We have new information about a two vehicle crash that happened Tuesday afternoon in Marquette Township.

      It happened at 4:05 p.m. on US-41. A 2000 Chevy Cavalier, driven by 26-year-old James Lemmond of Ishpeming, failed to yield to oncoming traffic while leaving Fox Motors of Marquette. Lemmond's vehicle was struck by a westbound 2002 Chevy Blazer driven by 59-year-old Christine Mattfolk of Dollar Bay.

      Lemmond and Mattfolk were transported to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lemmond was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

      Michigan State Police troopers were assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff's Department and the Marquette Township Fire Department.


      There was a serious two vehicle crash in Marquette Township late Tuesday afternoon.

      It happened around 4 p.m. near the Fox Marquette Ford dealership on US-41. Witnesses say the driver of a red Cavalier turning east toward Marquette veered into oncoming traffic and was struck by a westbound Chevy Blazer.

      Witnesses say the driver of the Cavalier appeared to be unconscious prior to the collision. No word on his condition. The names of those involved have not been released yet.
