      Two people rescued on Lake Superior

      UPDATE: Marquette City Fire Department said the two people stranded suffered from hypothermia and were transported to Marquette General Hospital.

      Marquette Firefighters rescued the two people with the assistance of Marquette Police, County Sheriffs Department, Medi-Ride 156, Marquette General, U.S. Coast Guard. The rescue was performed by City Fire Department swimmers. -----------------------------------------------------------

      Two people stranded on the ice in Lake Superior have been rescued. They were stuck about 50 yards from shore across from the wastewater treatment plant in Marquette. The Marquette City Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were called to the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m. Friday. The two individuals were rescued around 9:45 p.m.

      Authorities say the two men are suffering from mild hypothermia and are in fair condition. No word yet on why they were on the ice. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
