Two seriously injured in morning crash

Police are investigating a crash that left two seriously injured on Thursday morning at 6:45 a.m.

According to the Ishpeming Police Department, 17-year-old Cassidy Kudis was traveling on S. Pine Street in a Chrysler Intrepid when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a Ford truck head-on.

Kudis and a 6-year-old passenger were seriously injured in the crash, police report. The 6-year-old girl was taken to the intensive care unit at Marquette General Hospital. Kudis underwent surgery and was last reported in serious condition.

The driver of the truck, 43-year-old Lisa Holmgren, was treated at Bell Hospital and released.

Police report that Kudis is not related to the 6-year-old passenger. They also report that the child was not properly restrained in the vehicle.

According to the Ishpeming police, excessive speed is believed to be the cause of the crash, which is still under investigation.
