A 31-year-old woman is heading to prison after being sentenced Tuesday in Dickinson County Circuit Court on drug charges.
Amy Bergman was charged with two counts of delivery of heroin and two counts of delivery of cocaine. Bergman had been caught selling drugs less than a 1,000 feet from Iron Mountain High School. Before being sentenced, the defendant tried asking for leniency by being sent to jail rather than prison.
"I've had a rough start in my eyes. It's not how you start the race, it's how you finish. I'm standing before you today to ask for a second chance to believe in me and have faith that I'm going to do the right thing," said Bergman.
The judge sentenced Bergman to a minimum of one and a half years to a maximum of 30 years in prison for delivery of narcotics. A charge of maintaining a drug house was dismissed. A Niagara woman, who was a co-defendant with Bergman, was also sentenced Tuesday. She is 35-year-old Megan Gilbert. Gilbert was charged with delivery of cocaine on school property and habitual offender fourth offense. She pled guilty to delivery of cocaine and habitual offender third offense. The school property enhancement was dismissed. Gilbert received a 12 month jail sentence which will be followed by 90 days of inpatient treatment and two years probation.
