The Upper Peninsula All-Star Football game is a week away.
On Monday, players checked into their dorms at Northern Michigan University where they'll be staying for the week. Players picked up their equipment, and also brought in non-perishable food items.
Every year they collect around 800 pounds in food items to stock the kitchen pantry at the Beacon House. This year a total of 96 are participating.
"It's a real great honor to be honest with you," says Ryan LaBerge, who is playing for the West Team. "Only a few selected kids get to come here. Me playing at Northern is nice; just getting some summer practice in before I get to actual Northern practices."
Players will spend the week training and working on their skills before the West and East teams face off Saturday afternoon.
