Upper Peninsula lawmakers are taking a tour of the U.P., holding town hall meetings to discuss key issues with residents. Senator Tom Casperson joined State Representatives, John Kivela, Ed McBroom and Scott Dianda Wednesday in Marquette. The topics included education, energy, roads and even the Detroit bailout.
The open forum gave the lawmakers a chance to address individual concerns regarding each issue. Senator Tom Casperson says he's proud of the work they've done as a team despite party differences.
"We're trying to kind of set a standard, if you will, that we don't always agree, the four people that are representing the western end of the Upper Peninsula, we come from two different parties, we're split with two and two but we have found a way to work together when we do agree," said Casperson. "We're finding ways that we can get things done if we team up."
The town hall meetings continue Tuesday July 29 at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, Wednesday July 30 in Iron Mountain and wrapping up Thursday the July 31 in Escanaba.
