Upper Michigan hospital holds groundbreaking ceremony for new building

OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday in honor of the new John and Patricia Besse Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.

Hospital CEO Dave Lord and others spoke at the groundbreaking and thanked Patricia and the late John Besse for their $2.5 million contribution, making the new rehabilitation building possible. The new 14,500 square foot facility will be located on the hospital campus along Willow Creek Road.

"The old rehabilitation unit has curtains between the little booths," said Patricia Besse. "These will be all enclosed booths, privacy for patients. There's going to be a therapeutic pool."

The idea for the new center came about after Patricia Besse utilized the rehab services, and after a brief discussion of the hospital's vision, she took the idea home to John Besse and as she said, they ran with it.

Patricia added that John was excited and looking forward to watching the building progress as it became a reality. John passed away on July 27 of this year.
