If you haven't made up your mind where you'd like to go for your Memorial Day getaway, the state parks are still an option.
All state parks in the U.P. still have unclaimed campsites for the weekend with the exception of Bewabic State Park.
Michigan DNR staff say the late spring is responsible for the campsites filling up more slowly this year.
"We're a little bit below where we normally are for going into Memorial Day weekend. I think mostly because of the late start to our spring. Some of our campgrounds weren't opened as early as they normally were. So, we're...we definitely have campsites available if people haven't made their plans yet for the weekend" said DNR spokesperson Debbie Munson Badini.
For those who haven't reserved in advance, each park also has a select number of first-come, first-serve reservations.
