The Upper Michigan employment rate declined to 8.4% during the month of May.
According to Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, jobless rates during May decreased in 12 of the 15 Upper Michigan counties with monthly reductions ranging from -0.1% in Baraga County to -12.4% in Mackinac County. Houghton, Gogebic and Marquette counties reported increases of +0.4, +0.1, and +0.1 percentage points respectively.
The report states that over the past year, Upper Michigan's unemployment rate shrunk by 1.4 percentage points, similar to the statewide reduction. Unemployment rates dropped over the year in all 15 U.P. counties.
