The Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain will have a new transportation program starting January 4. The program will provide more access to the hospital for veterans across the U.P. All veterans will be eligible to take part.
The V.A. vans will pick veterans up in the morning and drop them off later that day.
The goal is to increase access for these type of patients that have a harder time getting to our V.A. medical center or our clinics, says Brad Nelson.
The V.A. won't be able to handle wheelchair and oxygen patients until spring. However, in the spring, they will be getting new 16-passenger vans that are wheelchair accessible.
To participate in the program, just call the V.A. Medical Center at (906) 774-3300.
