      Verdict reached for man accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash

      It was a mixed verdict in the trial of a Calumet man accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal drunk driving crash.

      On Friday 39- year-old David Paul Simons was found not guilty of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing death.

      B ut the jury did find him guilty of driving with a suspended license causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.

      O n November 5, 2011, Simons lost control of his vehicle on Five Mile Point Road in Keweenaw County and hit a line of trees.

      H is passenger, 54-year-old Jeffery Brusso, was killed in the crash. It took about three and a half hours for the jury to reach a verdict.

      B oth the prosecutor and defense attorney declined comment.

      S imons will be sentenced in four weeks.
