Jason Tormala served in the US Army for five years, deploying twice to Iraq. After returning, he began a new battle of readjustment but this time without his comrades to help him.
Tormala says "it's hard" to find someone who understands what you're going through. He adds that adjusting to his new life was difficult, especially with post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, but now he's on a new mission to help others.
Heâ??s created the Upper Peninsula Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans Support Group .
"Hopefully meet some new lifetime-long friends and form that camaraderie and new support system that many have lost," said the former Army sergeant.
Tormala says this Facebook page will help veterans connect and assist each other with mental, physical or emotional struggles.
The group will also hold events so members can meet and see their support firsthand. If youâ??re an Afghanistan or Iraq vet looking to connect, you can visit the Facebook page , Wordpress , or email Jason at Upiavets@gmail.com.
