Veterans get help from a younger military generation

ROTC members at Northern Michigan University are running for a good cause.

The Run-A-Thon Friday morning at the Superior Dome is raising funds for the Jacobetti Home. This past semester, the cadets have been soliciting funds from local businesses to donate to the veterans home. For each five dollars, the cadets would run one mile, and the group put in 410 miles. To help you out with the math, that's $2,050.

The cadets say they're very thankful for the help they received from the community.

"They were very friendly. A lot of businesses were more than happy to donate, even if it was a small amount. Everything helps," said freshman Cadet Chandele Macey.

"It's our way of giving back to them and saying, 'Thank you for your service,' and we feel like we owe it to them," said senior Cadet John Ingamells.

Some of the money raised will also go toward new training equipment for the ROTC program.
