An out of commission military aircraft is still being kept up by veterans in Negaunee Township.
The aircraft is owned by the federal government, but it was loaned to Vietnam Veterans Chapter 380 in Negaunee four years ago. The government inspects the helicopter once a year and let vets know this year that it needs a cleaning and fresh paint.
"We sand the surface and then we put on aircraft-type paint that we ordered special for this helicopter and then, of course, we have to tape it off and paint the numbers," said Larry Collister, Chapter 380 Board Member.
The vets will apply three coats of paint the next three days that should last another four years.
