The 38th annual Portage Health Canal Run takes place in the Keweenaw on July 20 and organizers still need volunteers for the event.
The canal run features a five mile and ten mile walk/run as well as a half marathon. The races start at High Point Road, McLain State Park, and Koskela Road and end at the Citizens Bank in Hancock.
Last year over 640 people participated in the event, and so far more than 500 people have signed up for this year. Organizers say it takes well over 100 volunteers to help make the event run smoothly.
"You could do anything from a water stop to removing the chip timing as they're coming through the finish line, helping us with awards, a lot of different options," said Community Event Coordinator Angela Luskin. "It really does feel good to give back, and the racers are very supportive of the volunteers, too."
Thursday is the last day to register before prices go up. July 19 is the final day to register before the races.
