Volunteers tend to fly under the radar in most situations, but a few were put in the spotlight to highlight the good they do within the community. Saturday the 18th annual Marquette County Outstanding Volunteer Awards were held at the Westwood Mall.
Volunteers were nominated in Youth, Adult, Senior, Organization, and Volunteer of the Year categories. St. Vincent de Paul of Ishpeming won the Organization Award category and Jeanette Maki won Volunteer of the Year for her many efforts.
"So many of our organizations depend very heavily on the contributions of our volunteers, their monetary contribution, the time that they give, the participation, energy, everything that they do for us," said Jill Rady of the Girls Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes.
The event was hosted by The Volunteer Coordinators of Marquette County.
The awards ceremony also coincides with National Volunteer Week which runs from April 6th through the 13th.
