As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Northern Michigan University held its annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event on Tuesday.
Before the walk, survivors of sexual assault shared their personal stories as part of their healing process.
About a hundred people participated in the event, stepping out in their best pair of heels. They walked down to Third Street and back.
Male participants wore high heels to gain experience of what it's like to be a woman.
"I wanted to come out and see how it was and show personal support for it. I was talking to one of the sorority girls earlier today and she was telling me how she was going to take pictures and post them on Facebook, so I told her I was going to look sexy in heels, so that's another achievement for me," said Peter Darga, an NMU Alpha Sigma Phi member and Walk A Mile participant.
The event was hosted by the Women's Center of Marquette and had numerous sponsors.
After the walk, NMU Cosmetology students offered foot massages for walkers with sore feet.
