The Beacon House in Marquette is getting set for the annual Walt Kyle Mile this weekend, and they've added to the event. It's a three-mile walk that starts and ends at the Berry Events Center and benefits the Beacon House.
New this year is the Dash, a 5K run in honor of Kristen O'Halloran, a young woman who lost her battle with cancer in 2008. Walt Kyle is the Northern Michigan University hockey hcad Coach and a cancer survivor.
"The great thing about Walt is he has taken that experience and he's using it for good: he's put on this fundraiser for us to help all of our cancer patients that are staying here at the Beacon House during that really difficult time," said Mary Tavernini Dowling, CEO of the Upper Peninsula Hospitality House. "He appreciates Beacon House and uses what he went through that was a really difficult time to help others."
The cost for registration is $10 for walkers, $15 for runners. We've created a link to the registration page here.
