The village of Newberry is having some trouble with the water tower. It has several leaks.
According to village manager Charles Cleaver, the first issue was noticed on April 7. A small hole was found on a middle panel on the side of the water tower. It's about the size of a person's little finger, and water was pouring out.
Then on April 10 around 3:30 p.m. one of the relief valves began leaking. Overnight, a second valve burst. That caused some flooding in nearby buildings, which has since been cleared out.
Adding to the trouble, they have determined that about three to four feet of ice has developed inside the tank.
Despite all of this, Cleaver says that residents in Newberry should not see any difference in their service.
Experts will be assessing the situation on Monday, April 21, and repairs should be made in the following days.
