W e Energies' request to shut down the Presque Isle power plant in February has been denied, Reuters reports.
According to Reuters, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, which is the regional power grid operator, announced Tuesday that the plant must remain operational to maintain a reliable power system in the Upper Peninsula.
We Energies is now discussing compensation with the power grid operator in order to keep the Presque Isle Plant running, according to Reuters. We Energies wanted to close the Presque Isle plant after losing Cliff's Natural Resources as a customer.
The Presque Isle power plant employs approximately 170 people.
