The Webster Park Children's Wading Pool in Escanaba opened today for summer season '13.
With temperatures rising to nearly 80 degrees in Escanaba, the pool had a good crowd of young children and parents. Only nine inches deep, the wading pool is designed for children ages one through four.
Tom Penegor, Recreation Director for Escanaba, says, "Families like to bring their smaller children here so they can get exposed to the water and to learn about swimming. It's not too deep and it's safer to learn here than in the lake, especially if the child hasn't been in the water before."
The Webster Park Children's Wading Pool will be open Monday through Friday, from 12 noon until 7 p.m. The pool is located on the 1300 block of North 19th Street, behind Webster Elementary School.
Young beginner swim classes are available to children three to six years of age. Classes begin Monday, July 8 and will be offered for five weeks through Thursday, August 8. The fee is $30 with a $15 fee for each additional participant per family.
Registrations are being taken at the Civic Center until Friday, June 28.
