In just a few weeks Bell Hospital in Ishpeming will have a new operating room. This will be the fourth one at the hospital.
The decision to add a new OR comes from increased volumes of surgical procedures. Construction on turning the space into an OR started in March. Officials say this will bring in more surgeons and patients.
Currently they do 230 procedures a month, including general surgery, orthopedic, urologic, and gynecological to name a few.
"Providing additional time more in the morning hours when people prefer to have their surgical procedures rather than coming in at 4 p.m. for a procedure, so we're hoping to provide them more efficient care," said Director of Surgical Services, Kim Dunlap.
Bell Hospital received $250,000 from Bell Auxiliary and community donations. Construction should be done by July 1.
