A 23-year-old Wilson resident was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for domestic assault.
In October of 2013, Peter Louis Meshigaud was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend with whom he lived. On April 2 of this year, Meshigaud pleaded guilty to domestic assault - habitual offender.
U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles Jr. reports that in addition to the prison sentence, Meshigaud was also ordered to pay restitution to the Hannahville Indian Community Housing Department in the amount of $1,164.75. Honorable Judge R Allan Edgar took Meshigaud's criminal history into account during the sentencing. His history included two prior domestic assaults, malicious destruction of property and assault and battery.
The Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Police and the FBI investigated the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah N. Bobee prosecuted the case.
