A winter parking ban for the City of Marquette will go into full effect on Tuesday night.
The ban prohibits anyone from parking on the city streets or parking lots from 1 to 6 a.m. Those who violate the parking ban will receive a $50 ticket, but police say they don't plan on issuing tickets until the first substantial snowfall.
"The reason why we have the parking ban is for the snow plows to clear the streets," said Marquette Police Sergeant Brian Grim. "It's much easier if there's no cars in the streets. They do a better job at nighttime because traffic is next to nothing."
Cars with four or more unpaid tickets will receive the boot or may be towed. Leniency under certain conditions may be granted to those who park downtown until 2 a.m. due to the bars closing past the ban time.
