While you're out picking up school supplies for your children, it's a great time to think about kids who may not have the supplies they need.
The Escanaba General Federation of Women's Club has parked a bus at Walgreen's, and they're hoping to fill it!
GFWC volunteers will also have collection sites set up at Walmart, Staples and Positively. They are collecting backpacks, supplies and cash donations. The club coordinates with local social workers and nurses to ensure every child in need receives a full backpack.
"A lot of these kids cannot afford to go out and buy backpacks or school supplies and so they show up on their first day of school with nothing," says Nancy Larche of the Escanaba GFWC. "They're very excited when they get to come to school with a backpack full of supplies that they need."
The collection will continue Friday at all four locations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
