The trial began on Monday in Delta County Circuit Court for the case of a 21-year-old Escanaba woman charged with abusing her three-month-old baby girl.
Angel Dawn Micheau is charged with child abuse in the first degree. The abuse allegedly happened on April 2, 2011.
After opening remarks, the trial started with the prosecution calling witnesses to the stand. A registered nurse who assessed the baby testified that she saw what appeared to be burns.
According to another witness, Angel Micheau did not seem concerned with the child's injuries.
"I had asked her about a scab on the child's lip, and she seemed to be irritated that I was asking about that," said ER Nurse Tera Ison. "And she was giving me short answers and was just real anxious."
Officials say the baby is now in foster care. The prosecution will call more witnesses to the stand on Tuesday.
Micheau remains lodged in the Delta County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
