The Lower Michigan woman charged in an Alger County home invasion pled guilty Monday morning in Alger County Circuit Court. Samantha Jo Menerey, a 21-year-old resident of Bay City, was involved in a robbery on County Road 440 in AuTrain Township on March 12.
Menerey and 29-year-old Richard VanPelt were charged after they entered the home, beat up the teenager inside the home, and stole several items. Menerey was charged with first degree home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, unlawful imprisonment and armed robbery.
As part of the plea agreement, Menerey will only be charged with home invasion. That charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. She will also have to testify against VanPelt and any other co-conspirators involved in the home invasion. Menerey will be sentenced August 16 at 10:00 a.m. She remains lodged in the Alger County Jail without bond.
