Woman who helped victims of domestic violence is murdered

New details have emerged in the death of a Peshtigo woman who was murdered last Sunday.

Trish Waschbisch, the Interim Director of Rainbow House, a domestic violence help center, died from "sharp force injuries," according to George Smith, the Marinette County Coroner.

A police press conference today revealed that Ms. Waschbisch's injuries resulted from knife wounds and the suspect is her boyfriend, Brent Kaempf. Kaempf was found early Monday morning. He was questioned and taken into custody without incident.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve noted that Waschbisch's death is especially difficult for law enforcement and the district attorney's office because she worked so closely with them in her pursuit of support for victims of domestic violence.

Kaempf is lodged in the Milwaukee County Jail and will be brought to Marinette County tomorrow. According to the Sheriff, Kaempf will make his first court appearance later this week and will likely be charged with first degree murder.
