The Dickinson county YMCA had a campaign at the beginning of the year to raise $50,000. The Strong Kids campaign is aimed to raise money for membership scholarships. The center has a policy that they won't turn away someone if they cannot afford a membership. This means scholarships are needed to help them become a YMCA member. The center even exceeded their goal of $50,000 for the campaign.
??Last year we gave away $30,000 here at the Dickinson center in scholarships for local youth, adults, families, and seniors,?? said YMCA director, Jonathan Ringel. "We are really depending on this campaign to help us move forward in 2014,?? Ringel said.
The YMCA uses the free and reduced lunch guidelines to determine scholarship eligibility.
