It's an exciting time for staff at the YMCA in Marquette. They've kicked off their Strong Kids Community Benefit campaign, and this year they say their goal is higher than ever.
They hope to reach $125,000 by the end of June. The campaign is an annual effort that helps low-income families in the community use the 'Y' and its resources at no cost. The money helps about 1,100 families each year.
Staff says each donation helps to bring the budget closer to their number.
"The mission of the YMCA is that we don't turn away anyone due to inability to pay and this ensures that whoever wants to participate in the 'Y' is able to do so," said Karen Carroll, a board member.
So far the organization has raised nearly $42,000.
