T wo kayakers were rescued in Delta County on Friday night on the Escanaba River near Boney Falls. At 9:08 p.m., Delta County Central Dispatch received a call reporting that four kayakers had capsized on the river.
The caller said that two kayakers had made it to shore, but the other two were still in the water. When the Delta County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police arrived on the scene, they located the two distressed kayakers stuck in some rapids south of the Boney Falls Dam. A 21-year-old Bark River man and a 19-year-old Escanaba woman were taken to safety. They were treated at the scene and released.
Members of the Delta County Search and Rescue Team used swift water rescue treatment. Rampart EMS, Rock EMS and the hovercraft from Gladstone Public Safety also assisted at the scene.
