Youth seek help funding mission trip

A group of young people from the Marquette area need community help as they prepare to head south for a mission trip.

Fifteen people from the Marquette First Presbyterian Church Youth Group are traveling to New Orleans by train on June 19.

They need to raise $6,000 to go, so they're holding a rummage sale this Saturday morning at the church. They'll have all the usual rummage sale goods, but they've also spent a lot of time up-cycling some donated furniture.

It's not the first mission trip for one high school sophomore.

"It's just really rewarding, because we've helped in a few different ways," said Liesel Demeuse, Youth Group member. "We've helped garden and helped them with their food. We've helped them with finding clothes and just helping improve their outlook."

The sale is on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church on Front Street in Marquette. If you want to shop early, you can buy a $5 ticket to enter the rummage sale at 8 a.m.

You can buy an early bird ticket at the church office or just show up bright and early to shop.
