Zombies are taking over an Iron Mountain park Friday night to help kids put their best feet forward. Now in its second year, the Zombie Run/Walk or Stagger is the "brain" child of Debbie Sauld-Mckinzie. She and her husband John run the Jodeco Salon. Last year a client said that many local students have a hard time taking physical education classes because their shoes did not fit properly. As an avid runner, this was a call to action for Debbie. In the inaugural run, about 70 zombies helped raise more than $2,400. Using only a Facebook page to promote the event, this year they expect nearly 200 zombies and humans to be on hand. The zombie filled event will have a very appropriate night: Friday June 13th, under the full moon. Adding to the fun is the trail itself. It's on the Iron Mountain City Park ski trail so only part of the way will be lit. That means participants will need to keep one eye on the woods. And while runners don't have to dress as the walking dead, there will be prizes for costumes. To encourage more people to join in prizes will not be given out to first, second, and third. Instead they are awarded to other finishing positions in the event.
Registration begins at 8:00 p.m. CDT at City Park in Iron Mountain. It's $10 per person or $25 for a family of three or more. The first 150 to sign up will receive a commemorative shirt. After signing up, you are encouraged to stagger over to the Iron Mountain Stadium to support the Relay For Life. Then be back in the park by 10:00 p.m. for the run of your life .. So to speak.
