Ashland defeated Michigan Tech 3-0 in GLIAC volleyball tonight at the SDC Gym. The preseason South Division favorite hit .319 as a team to win by set scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-20."Ashland's a good team, but I thought we did execute our game plan at all," said Tech head coach Matt Jennings. "The effort was there, but our focus wasn't. We weren't very sharp at the net."Tech's bid for a sixth straight home win started out well. The Huskies scored four of the first five points and held a 13-11 lead midway through the opening frame. AU roared back with eight straight points and went on to the 25-20 victory.Back-to-back service aces helped the Eagles to an 18-8 lead in set two en route to a 25-16 victory.Set three saw the Huskies try to surge late. The hosts won four straight points twice in an 11-point span to pull within 24-20 before AU's Alli Cudworth put it away with a kill.Tech was led offensively by Sylvie Rokosh, who compiled a match-high-tying 10 kills with a .318 hitting percentage. Aubrey Ficek had six kills on 33 attempts.Jacqueline Aird posted a match-high 12 digs.Ashland recorded 42 kills and a .319 hitting percentage as a team compared to the Huskies 29 kills and .080 hitting percentage.Michigan Tech (5-7 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) will try to bounce back at home tomorrow with a 4 p.m. match vs. Lake Erie.
