Charles River tops Marquette 2-1 in U16 National Championship

Just two days ago, Charles River surrendered five goals to the City Insurance Sentinels girls hockey team.

Today, their roles were reversed, as Charles River defeated Marquette 2-1 to capture the USA Hockey Girls Tier II U16 National Championship.

Meghara McManus got things started for the Blazers, putting Charles River up 1-0 early in the first period.

In the second period, Kirsten Iwanski tied the game at one with 13:30 to go, with the assist going to Freya Holferty.

Brenna Galvin scored the game-winning goal in the third period to put the Blazers up 2-1.

The Blazers held Allison Carlson in check, after she scored all five goals in the Sentinels' 5-1 win over the Blazers on Friday.

Marquette goalie Hannah Riesland was injured momentarily in the third period, but finished the game with 33 saves.

The Sentinels take home the silver medal.

They finish the season with a 29-21-4 record.
