      Five teams compete at Bay Mills during LSSU Fall Invitational

      BAY MILLS - Freshman Zac Carson shot a 3-over 75 to tie for fourth place and lead the Lake Superior State men's golf team after the first day of competition Monday at the season-opening LSSU Fall Invitational at Bay Mills Resort.

      Carson recorded four birdies on the back nine on his way to a 35 and five-stroke improvement on a front-nine 40. Lakers Sean Stubbs and Joe Ericson, who are tied for eighth place, shot 76s. Ericson eagled the par-5 17th hole to highlight his round.

      LSSU's top five scores included Doug Piesko with an 80 and Rob Perry with an 81. Matt Meharg shot an 82, followed by Justin Helmholdt and Pete Parksi with 83s, Andrew M with an 86 and Nathan Stump with a 93.

      Jordan Andrus of Wayne State leads the 41-player field with an even-par 72, while teammate Austin Hill is third with a 74. Northern Michigan's Mike Murphy is second with a 73.

      Competition resumes Tuesday at 9 a.m.
