Former NMU Hockey Wildcat moving to Russia

Former NMU Hockey player Mark Olver had a frustrating season in 2013-14 without the Colorado Avalanche. He wasn't called up and stayed in the minors all season.

So Olver's agent found another opportunity, in the city of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sochi, Russia in the Kontinental Hockey League.

"I'm looking forward to the option they gave me," said Olver. "Seems like they're really interested in having me there, just to go over there and have a life experience and see what Europe has to offer. Obviously it's part of Russia and Asia there. I'm looking forward to get like Northern getting to play on Olympic-sized sheet again. Obviously Northern was an Olympic-sized sheet. I'd like to be able to get some open ice out there and see what I can do."

Olver scored 15 goals and had 34 assists with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League last season.

He signed a one year deal with Sochi.
