Gladstone native William Hess will be among many military heroes honored at the MLB All-Star Game next week. Hess was chosen out of thousands of people to be part of People Magazine's "Tribute to Heroes" event. While there, he will be representing the Colorado Rockies.
According to MLB.com, Hess "served 10 years in the Army, with two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. As Platoon Sergeant in a Combat Engineer Company, his primary job is finding and destroying IEDs to clear the way for fellow-on forces."
Hess and 29 other military heroes will be recognized during the pregame ceremony leading up to next week's All-Star Game at Citi Field on July 16.
He is currently stationed in Colorado Springs and was a 2001 graduate of Gladstone High School.
