Gwinn hires Dion Brown as new football coach

Gwinn has hired Dion Brown to be its next varsity football coach.

The school announced the hiring Wednesday afternoon, three months after former head coach Darren Sinnaeve stepped down.

Brown was the Modeltowners junior varsity football coach last season, and spent five years before that as an assistant coach for Jeff Olson and the Ishpeming Hematites football program.

â??I bring passion, excitement, [and] stability to a program that's in dire need of it,â?? Brown said. â??What I love about being a head coach is you get to teach young men the fundamentals, and the ins and outs of the game.â??

Brown also told TV6 sports he would bring a physical aspect to the football program to make it a long-term commitment for his players.

He was an all-conference cornerback at NMU back in 2003-2004.

Gwinn finished last season with a 2-7 record.
