From Fremont, California (17 miles north of San Jose) in game three of pool play (final game of pool play) at the USA Hockey National Championships, the Keweenaw Storm Girls 19U hockey team wins 6 to 2 over Chazy Lady Flyers (Chazy, NY) Girls 19U hockey team.
The Lady Flyers scored the first goal on a shorthanded breakaway 2 minutes 58 seconds into the first period. The Storm answered by scoring the next 5 goals (3 in the first period). Jessica Schlaff scored 7 minutes 29 seconds into period one (assisted by Bailey Raffaelli and Lexi Pyykkonen). Kim Harter scored at 10 minutes 25 seconds into the first period (assisted by Selena Stromer and Rachel Kinnunen) and again at 13 minutes into the first period (assisted by Megan Yeo).
Bailey Raffaelli scored for the Storm 2 minutes 17 seconds into the second period (assisted by Jessica Schlaff). 9 minutes 45 seconds into the second period, Lexi Pyykkonen scored for Storm (assisted by Bailey Raffaelli and Jessica Schlaff). Then Chazy Lady Flyers scored on a rebound 11 minutes 7 seconds into the second period. The lone goal of the third period was scored by the Storm's Kenna Farrey 3 minutes 56 seconds into the third period (assisted by Selena Stromer and Kim Harter). Stephanie King (Storm goalie) recorded 17 saves on 19 shots.
This victory gives the Storm the first seed in the American Conference.
Keweenaw Storm now play a quarter-final game (single elimination) at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, April 6, against the fourth seed of the National Conference, the Portland (Maine) Junior Pirates at San Jose.
