SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State improved its men's basketball record to 4-0 with Tuesday's 92-55 victory over Silver Lake College of Manitowoc, Wis.
The Lakers, playing without starting center Cameron Metz, were led by Derek Billing with 26 points and Alex Williams with 23. The hot-shooting duo was a combined 13-of-24 from three-point range. They combined for nine three-pointers and 31 points during the first half.
Tony Harris followed with 14 points and six assists, and Jake Blake added nine points and eight rebounds. Mike Smutny contributed seven points and seven rebounds, and Lucas Holt had six points.
LSSU trailed 20-14 midway through the first half before going on a 15-0 run that included four three-pointers. Freshman Jordan Dasuqi had one, and Billing and Williams took care of the rest. The Lakers led 45-28 at halftime.
LSSU shot 48.5 percent from the field for the game, including 16-of-33 from three-point range. The Lakers made 12-of-14 free throws and out-rebounded Silver Lake, 38-35.
John Duke scored 15 points and Darius Barnes had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead Silver Lake (2-7). The Lakers shot 32 percent from the field, including 8-of-24 from three-point range, and made 15-of-27 free throws.
LSSU plays host to Algoma University at 6 p.m. Sunday.
