      LSSU's Deuling, Heath and Birkeland finish among top five at GLIAC Preview

      HOUGHTON - Ben Deuling, Taylor Heath and Adam Birkeland finished among the top five overall as the Lake Superior State men's cross country team won Saturday's three-team Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preview Meet hosted by Michigan Tech.

      LSSU won the men's meet with 19 points, followed by Michigan Tech with 39 and Gogebic with 84. Deuling was second behind Adam Martin (Unattached) with a time of 27:01.7. Heath was fourth in 28:11.6, while Birkeland was fifth in 28:16.2. LSSU's top five also included Anthony Silva, who was eighth in 28:50.5, and Ryan Rogers, who was 12th in 29:12.8.

      Northern Michigan won the four-team women's meet with 15 points. LSSU was second with 59 points, followed by Michigan Tech with 64 points and Gogebic with 114.

      Casey Shafer placed 14th in 26:04.5 to lead the Laker women. Jessica Allen was 16th in 26:24.4, followed by Hannah Passino, who was 19th in 27:04.8. Rounding out LSSU's top five were Kelsey Lewis, who was 22nd in 27:17.5, and Liz Dachs, who was 25th in 27:50.5.
