The Marquette American Legion Blues traveled to Menominee to take on the Red Wave in doubleheader action on Sunday and came away with a sweep.
In game one, the Blues sent Trevor Bratonia to the mound after tossing a no hitter last weekend against the Red Wave, and Bratonia tossed a 4 hit, 6 inning gem to beat Menominee 11-3. The Blues scored in the top of the first and then gave up three runs in the bottom half on several errors and miscues. However, they didn't give up another run the rest of the day and were able to plate 10 more in the first game. Leading the way for the Blues with two hits apiece were Hunter Larson, Riley Lynch, Ryan Hanson, and MacKinley Larson. Notching single hits were Derek Stone and Payton LeBombard. Ryan Hanson came in for the last inning and closed the game with a 3 up 3 down inning.
In game two of the twinbill, it was more of the same as the Blues were able to end the game in 5 innings due to the 10 run mercy run, winning 10-0. MacKinley Larson took to the mound and tossed a 1 hit 9 strikeout performance to round out the day. The Blues in game two only notched 5 hits, but were able to work 9 walks into the mix to end the game. Notching hits were Hunter Larson, Riley Lynch, Sam Leow, Payton LeBombard and Jim Mallos. The Blues were able to turn three double plays behind MacKinley Larson to keep the game out of reach.
"Both pitchers did a great job for us today. Trevor and MacKinley know how to throw strikes and they both throw hard. They both had their off speed pitches working to compliment their heaters," said Blues Manager Derek Swajanen. "Levi Underwood behind the dish called two real good games today for us. He is as rock solid as you can get and deserves to get some recognition."
The Blues will travel to Kingsford on Wednesday and then host Kingsford on Thursday.
