Michigan Tech Defense Prevails in Women's Basketball Win

Sun, 25 Nov 2012 05:17:01 GMT — The Michigan Tech women's basketball led from start to finish in a 66-53 win at No. No. 16 UW-Parkside Saturday (Nov. 24)."We made a goal to hold them under 55 points, and we did that today," said head coach Kim Cameron. "Our defense really stepped up today."The Huskies held the Rangers to just 34-percent (19-56) from the floor and 20 first half points. UWP only made one of its 14 3-point attempts in the contest.Sam Hoyt led all scorers with a season-high 23 points. The senior guard made three consecutive 3-pointers late in the first half for the Huskies. She tallied four assists.Junior Taylor Stippel was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.Freshman Kylie Moxley scored a career-high eight points and grabbed six rebounds for Tech.The Huskies shot 43-percent (23-53) from the floor and 43-percent (6-14) from behind the arc.Gaby Bronson led three Rangers in double figures with 11 points.Tech will open GLIAC play at Malone Thursday (Nov. 29).
