The Northern Michigan University soccer team was selected seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Wildcats play an exhibition game against the Allouez Stride at noon on Sunday (Sept. 1) at the NMU Soccer Field before kicking off the regular season on Sept. 5 at Minnesota-Duluth.
Grand Valley State (144) was selected as the top team in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech (123), Saginaw Valley State (120), Ohio Dominican (102) and Findlay (91) rounded out the top five. Ferris State (87) was also above NMU in sixth.
Below Northern in the poll were Tiffin (68), Northwood (63), Ashland (62), Walsh (43), Lake Erie (23) and Malone (18).
NMU plays all the other 12 GLIAC teams once in 2013 and begins conference play on Sept. 22, hosting Lake Erie.
The league's 13 head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team.
