Michigan Tech defenseman Shane Hanna , who helped the Huskies record a pair of road victories over league rival Alaska last weekend, is the WCHA Rookie of the Week for Dec. 3, 2013.A 5-11, 195-pound freshman from Salmon Arm, B.C., Hanna recorded his first two collegiate goals and contributed three total points in Michigan Tech's 3-2, 2-1 sweep at Alaska last weekend in Fairbanks. With his team trailing 1-0 last Friday (Nov. 29), Hanna netted his first collegiate goal at 0:58 of the second period to tie the score before assisting on a go-ahead tally by teammate Alex Petan at 4:49 as the Huskies took game one 3-2. Then in the series finale on Saturday (Nov. 30), Hanna broke up a scoreless tie with a power-play goal at 0:26 of the second period to give Tech a 1-0 lead en route to the 2-1 win. In addition, Hanna put seven shots on goal in the series and earned a +1 plus/minus rating as Tech killed all six Alaska power-plays and won twice despite being outshot in both games. Playing in all 16 of Tech's games as a rookie this season, Hanna has six points (2g, 4a). Hanna is Tech's third WCHA Player of the Week in 2013-14, joining Pheonix Copley (WCHA Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 28) and Alex Petan (WCHA Offensive Player of the Week Nov. 11).
