      MTU's Sturos earns national hockey recognition

      Michigan Tech's Reid Sturos has been named the Hockey Commissioner's Association National Rookie of the Month after posting 12 total points during February while helping the Huskies to a 5-2-0 record.

      Sturos led all freshmen in the nation with 12 points, posting five goals and seven assists in just seven games for a 1.71 points per game average.The native of Brighton, Mich., scored in six of the seven contests with three multi-point games. Five of the seven assists he tallied in the month were primary helpers. He also posted a +5 plus/minus rating for the month.Sturos' four-point outburst in a 7-4 win vs. rival Northern Michigan Feb. 21 included a hat trickâ??the first of his career. The right wing finished the weekend sweep of NMU with another goal, giving him 4-1=5 on the series en route to WCHA Rookie of the Week accolades.Sturos, who has 7-13=20 in 26 games on the season, has been named WCHA Player of the Week three times this season (Jan. 7, Jan. 28 and Feb. 25).
